Fort Wayne Metals Employees Gather to Pack 125 Breastie Boxes to Benefit Local Women Fighting Breast Cancer

125 Breastie Boxes containing comfort items for women fighting breast cancer were packed by 100 Fort Wayne Metals employees on Friday, Oct. 4. It is the second year Fort Wayne Metals has partnered to host an on-site assembly event for Breastie Boxes, a local nonprofit focused on the emotional support side of a patient’s breast cancer journey.

Erica Hyatt, Executive Director and Founder of Breastie Boxes sahred, “we are committed to growing our impact, reaching more women, and building meaningful connections with each patient. To do that, we rely on the support of local businesses. Fort Wayne Metals has been a true partner in this effort, fostering a sense of community that goes beyond donations—it’s a commitment to making a real difference and you can’t put a price on that kind of dedication.”

Breastie Boxes began building boxes in October 2022 and has gifted more than 1,200 boxes to support patients at Parkview, Dupont, and Lutheran hospitals and Fort Wayne Medical Oncology, in addition to community outreach opportunities that arise.

Each box contains items like socks, blankets, natural personal care products, jewelry, and hand-crafted art—all selected personally by the Breastie Boxes team, and personal notes of encouragement written by Fort Wayne Metals employees to unnamed women in the community who will be fighting for their lives.

“At Fort Wayne Metals, showing up for our community is just as important as showing up for work—it’s part of who we are. The opportunity to give back, especially to a cause that touches so many of our employees personally—whether it's a mother, wife, sister, or friend—makes us incredibly proud. Hosting this event for the second year in a row, and doubling the number of women we’re able to reach, has been an absolute honor. It's a powerful reminder of the impact we can make together, both as a company and as individuals,” said Taylor Monaco, Corporate Communications Manager at Fort Wayne Metals.

Fort Wayne Metals is proud to have been the first corporate sponsor of the nonprofit in 2023 and the first to host Pack the Box events on-site, allowing its employees to take an active role in supporting women in the community that are battling breast cancer.
